Isra’s Odyssey is a single player, 3D narrative adventure with puzzles, platforming, and environmental storytelling. The player takes on the role of Isra, a mother setting out in the world to save her home from an ever growing darkness. Equipped with a magical sword with the powers of teleportation and a glare that can burn through plants, it is up to Isra to solve the mystery of the growing darkness and bring balance to her home. 

This was a project made as a senior capstone in the fall semester.

Level Planning

Before starting the level building in engine, the team discussed the mechanics, and overall theme of the game. For the semester, we wanted to make a level that showcased the mechanics of the game, being a short teleport with the “shadow powers” and the ability to burn plants with “light powers”, as well as give an intro to the player character and the story of the world around her.  

 

Here I made a quick sketch of the level plan, where the x’s indicate points where the character can interact with the world and learn more about the environment and Isra. The main goal was to teach the player about the shadow teleport ability, the light ability, and then add puzzles that required the player to use their abilities and make the terrain more difficult to get around so they are required to use their abilities. 

Final Product

Throughout development, I was in charge of level design, set dressing including importing models and materials, visual effects and UI/UX design. There was a lot of iteration in the level design, lighting, and vfx to give the player feedback we were looking for. Unfortunately, I do not have those in progress images anymore, but here are some images of the final product!
