Forkdrift is an online multiplayer game where players can go head to head and flip friends to earn points in “Fork Frenzy”, or capture and hold a central point in “Delivery”.
Forkdrift was made by a team of students during our junior year of college in the spring semester of 2020, and work was continued into the summer until it released on Steam for PC.
As of 2026, Forkdrift has over 100k downloads on Steam and a Very Positive review score!
During development once we really got the systems and mechanics down, I started changing the UI to fit a mechanical/construction theme that our game was going for. At this point we had our logo, so I used the colors of the logo into our UI by making the out of game UI have a background with the caution colors the same colors as the logo. I was inspired by warehouses and worksites, so I wanted to make the menus look like concrete that was stained by machines. I also made the UI assets have bolts on the corners to try and make them look like metal sheets.
As the release date approached and I had a lot more time due to the covid shut down, I wanted to change all of the menus. I had an idea that we could make the menus look like someone going to work and going to a worksite, and from there I made 3D scenes in Unity and used those as the menu backdrops. I also wanted to have more movement in menus, so I made the main menu have more motion in the background, as well as the game mode selection screen.
