Disney Magic Match 3D is a 3D match 3 puzzle mobile game based on various Disney IPs such as Mickey Mouse, Toy Story, Moana, and much more! On top of the main puzzle game loop, there are various features for players to take part is such as racing against other players in the Sky Sprint, collecting Disney themed items and characters in the Collection feature, and facing a challenge to beat levels without losing in the Cave of Wonders feature.
Since the early days of development, I have been working alongside UI/UX artists and engineers to set up the base visuals as a whole with prefabs. Over the process of development, we have had many instances of visual iteration, and it was my job to update the project to reflect such visual changes, as well as enforcing the visual style by condensing art assets and text materials. During my time working on this game, I have collaborated with artists and engineers to develop everything from the base game loop to the various events. I have worked on most if not all features, so I will only show off some of my favorite features here!
One of the main pillars of game play is the collection feature, where players can gather Disney themed items through levels and Disney IP characters through the Card Album or Star Pass feature. Through finishing item groups, players will receive prizes such as card packs, boosters, and coins. This feature was a fun challenge because in one screen we support in progress sets, completed sets, and characters, with different borders and shelf sizes.
Some time after the main collection feature, we worked on the Magic Item Event, a timed event featuring color themed events such as AAPI month, Frozen, and Pride month. For the event, we made all of the screens and assets grayscale to be tinted using image tinting in Unity to cut down on asset numbers and to allow for the capacity of all different colors for events.
